Dear President Trump and supporters in any country,
I want you, Mr. President, and everyone else to think about the world you are creating with every decision you make. I understand that all your decisions now are executive orders, not legislative process, and this kind of reminds me of a mustachioed German I read about, can’t recall the name though. Your policies create a world where people are out for themselves, where people see suffering and instead of thinking ‘I should help’, they think ‘glad it isn’t me’. The thing about that is, if it isn’t you today, it’ll be you tomorrow. That’s the funny truth about us humans, Mr. President, is we need each other to survive. A human in a community survives much longer than one in solitary confinement. But we lose sight of that sometimes. We forget that we make each other better and start to think that ‘they’ make ‘us’ worse. That someone else is to blame.
So I want you to think before you tug at the thread holding human civilization together like an incorrigible and possibly genocidal child. Because you might find this tapestry near impossible to put together when you’re done unravelling it.
Mostly, Mr. President and all of your supporters, I want you to use that golden rule they teach to literally everyone in every society. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I want you to think about the refugees before you ban them or the illegal immigrants before you deport them or the wave of hateful violence before you unleash it (too late for that one). Think what if I wasn’t an entitled privileged ill-informed wind bag and instead I was a Syrian teenage refugee or a Honduran young girl, both are fleeing something you can’t even fathom (imagine it with your brain, which like your hands is tiny). What if you were them, wouldn't you want someone to reach out and say ‘welcome huddled masses yearning to be free’? I don’t know where I got that quote from, it must be pretty famous. I am sure it had nothing to do with American history and your grandfather and millions of American grandfathers and some grandmothers too, I imagine. Please put yourself in someone else’s shoes and do not isolate yourself from the suffering (most of which you are causing).
But mostly Mr. President and supporters please please please … Go fuck yourselves!
