Baseball like many team sports crosses national borders and brings people together. Unlike other team sports, actually unlike all sports, baseball has a magical unquantifiable metaphysical character about it; a je ne sais quoi that lights up the faces of children and adults alike.
Certainly other sports adapt to culture, soccer has an intimate relationship with Brazilian culture and hockey with Canadian culture. But when a new country or people pick up the sport does the sport adapt to them or do they adapt to the sport? How can one sport be so intertwined with American culture, Japanese culture, Cuban culture, Dominican culture, and so many more? There is something quintessentially American or Japanese or Cuban about baseball.
